Practice Test 5 - Question commentary
Instructions
You are travelling along a two-way road in a 50km/hour speed zone.
Click the 'REACT' button when you would slow down.
Setting
You are moving along a suburban street. As the clip progresses you can see a vehicle surrounded by people parked on the left hand side of the street. As you come closer to the vehicle the driver’s door opens and the driver exits the vehicle.
Response
The correct answer is to respond as soon as you see the vehicle is surrounded by people (as this could be a hazard). Alternatively you could wait until you see the driver open their door.
Instructions
You are stopped.
You wish to turn right at the intersection.
Click the 'REACT' button when it would be safe to go.
Setting
You want to turn right at a set of traffic lights. You do not have a dedicated green arrow and must wait for a safe gap in traffic to make the turn.
Response
There are no gaps in oncoming traffic that would allow for a safe turn. As such, the correct answer is not to respond – just let the clip play until it is complete.
Instructions
You are stopped.
You wish to turn right at the intersection.
Click the 'REACT' button when it would be safe to go.
Setting
You want to turn right an intersection. There is a truck in the same situation on the opposite side of the intersection attempting to turn in front of you.
Response
While the truck is waiting to make its turn you cannot proceed safely as you do not have sufficient visibility to ensure the turn will be safe. As such, the correct answer is not to respond – just let the clip play until it is complete.
Instructions
You are stopped.
You wish to turn right at the intersection.
Click the 'REACT' button when it would be safe to go.
Setting
You are waiting to turn right across oncoming traffic and it is pouring rain (meaning you need larger gaps than in good conditions). There are a number of oncoming vehicles and you must respond when it is safe to make the turn.
Response
There are no gaps in oncoming traffic that would allow for a safe turn. As such, the correct answer is not to respond – just let the clip play until it is complete.
Instructions

Instructions
You are travelling along a two-way road in a 70km/hour speed zone.

Setting
You are travelling at 60km/h along a 3-lane dual carriageway at night. As the clip proceeds the vehicle in front of you brakes to slow down.

Instructions
You are stopped.
You wish to turn right at the intersection.
There are no other vehicles or pedestrians on your left or right.
Click the 'REACT' button when it would be safe to go.
Setting

Response
While the truck is waiting to make its turn you cannot proceed safely as you do not have sufficient visibility to ensure the turn will be safe. As such, the correct answer is not to respond – just let the clip play until it is complete.
